I've been thrifting a few times in the past month and came up with several nice things. One of them is a lovely old enameled water kettle, which I will probably use for a vase, though it's a nice decoration on it's own. It is not useable for water, since there are a few chips and some minor rust inside, but it didn't stop me from buying it for $5.00.
The next thing I found was this lovely ceramic bowl. I guess its the shape of a candy dish, almost 5" tall. You can't tell it from my photo, but it's a soft butter color. I'm thinking to use this in my booth display to hold something, but if not, then it goes in my studio to hold small tools, like scissors and such. It could, however, easily be used in the kitchen the same way, or perhaps as a gravy container. $2.00 was a good buy (no chips or cracks!)
The thing that got me most excited was this lovely, heavy metal candelabra. It is about 24" across and sits very substantially (so I know it won't easily tip over) and my plan is to spray paint it white and use the the little trays on the top to hold tiny dolls or other items for sale and to hang a few things from the curlicues. I think it was an absolutely fantastic bargain at $5.50!!! It will make my tiny-sized offerings so much more interesting and raise them up closer to eye level. It is in such perfect condition that I hate to paint it, but I think white will make my items pop better on a table.
So, all in all, I'm quite pleased with my finds and, of course, I always come home with clothes that can be used for dolls or other projects. I found the most perfect, doll-scaled baby corduroy print with kitties and teensy pink hearts that I will use several times, I'm sure. For the price of a $2.00 pair of pants, I can clothe several small dolls in an adorable print. I can't wait to use it. Also found a very small-scaled pink plaid that will be doll clothes as well. It's been a very good month for thrifting.
And the sewing continues! I'm working on my T-dolls and will soon have some photos up. I'm about to finish bonnets for the last three and then will be photographing them for your viewing pleasure. Next up after that will be the first of my Waldorf dolls, which I'm extremely excited about.
